Where can I see whether territory optimization increases the number of customer calls that can be made?

An increase in the number of visits is one of the most valuable effects of territory optimization.

Start a new territory optimization and click Start optimization. You can see how the number of customer visits per employee changes under Optimization result > Details in the Customer calls column.
